A Dawsonville man was among the 19 people killed in wrecks statewide over the July Fourth holiday weekend.

Dawson County Coroner Ted Bearden said Michael Martinez Moreno, 27, was pronounced dead Saturday night at Northside Hospital-Forsyth.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash, which occurred about 10:30 p.m. Saturday on Hwy. 53, just east of Young's Place, in western Dawson County.

A state patrol spokeswoman said Martinez Moreno was traveling west on Hwy. 53 when his Ford F-150 was struck by an oncoming Dodge Caravan that had crossed the centerline in a curve.

The driver of the Caravan, whose name has not been released, "struck the F-150 in the driver side door. The F-150 overturned and came to rest on an embankment," the spokeswoman said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no charges had been filed.

"We don't know if alcohol or drugs were involved," the spokeswoman said.

Three other people, including a toddler, were also injured in the crash.

The child and one of the other injured were in the pickup truck, while the third person was in the van.

They were taken to area hospitals with what Dawson County Emergency Services Chief Lanier Swafford described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The weekend death marked the fourth fatality of the year on Dawson County roads.
