Officials reporting large early voting turnout
Election

Election day is officially a week away and board of elections officials are continuing to report a large early voting turnout, with 5,028 people casting ballots as of Monday night.

Prior to the last midterm election in 2014, 3,264 early ballots were cast in Dawson County.

Saturday voting also saw a large turnout despite Mountain Moonshine Festival traffic, with 228 people casting votes compared to 63 in 2014.

Dawson County's registered voter count is approximately 18,284, according to Director of Elections and Registration Glenda Ferguson.

Early voting continues through Friday at the board of elections office, located at 96 Academy Avenue in Dawsonville. The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. election day Nov. 6. There will be no voting Monday prior to the election.
