On Saturday, Sept. 19, Dawsonville Fit Body Bootcamp and Five Star NTP will host the third annual “Race for Grace” 5K and Fun Run.
The race, which in the past has taken place at Veteran’s Memorial Park, will take place virtually this year. Participants can run when and where they want between now and Sept. 19, and a web link that allows them to input their race times will calculate winners after the race window closes at 11:59 p.m. on Sept 19.
The race is in honor of Grace Sheer, a Dawson County high school student who lost her life in a car wreck in early 2018. In her time at Dawson County High School, Sheer played on the women’s soccer team and was a member of the Chamber Singers, the Interact Club and the National Spanish Honors Society, according to the race’s website.
“Most importantly, though, Grace was a kind soul,” the website says. “Her positive attitude and kind words could make any of her classmates’ day a little brighter. Additionally, Grace was fiercely loyal to and unquestionably loved her family and friends. Each and every day that Grace was with us, she demonstrated the true meaning of good character.”
All proceeds from the race will be donated to the Grace Sheer Scholarship Fund, according to the website.
“The Grace Sheer Scholarship Fund will provide a scholarship for one female athlete at Dawson County High School who exemplifies Grace through her work ethic, kindness and dedication to not only athletics, but also academically and with her outstanding character,” the website says.
Participants can sign up for the virtual race now through Sept. 19 online. Registration is $30 for those who want a race t-shirt or $20 for those who don’t want one. Runners are encouraged to register by Sept. 13 to guarantee the correct shirt size. Contactless packet pickup will be at Because Coffee on Sept. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m.
