The Dawson County Tax Commissioner’s Office and the Georgia Motor Vehicle Division are partnering together to implement a new system update for vehicle registration called Georgia DRIVES.

The new system will be rolled out May 28, and tax commissioners’ offices statewide are warning citizens that they will be unable to process tag renewals and other vehicle transactions for several days in May.

According to Dawson County Tax Commissioner Nicole Stewart, "Statewide, all county tag offices will be unable to process vehicle transactions May 24 to May 27. The office will be unable to process tags starting at 12 on Thursday, May 23 until Tuesday, May 28."

Citizens with birthdays in May and June are encouraged to renew their tags as early as possible to prevent delays.

Georgia DRIVES vastly expands the online services available to the public, including pre-applying for title registration, looking up the status of your title, registering and renewing your company’s fleet vehicles, pre-payment for sponsor plates, and much more.
