School system releases info on new after school care provider

After approving a new a vendor for school care for all four Dawson elementary schools last month, the Dawson County School Board has posted quick access links for registering students for the Georgia Mountains YMCA program.

Parents wishing to register their children for the 2017-2018 school year can go to the system website,, to register.

From the home page, click on the "Parents" tab, then "After School Program (Elementary)," and there will be a link for more information as well as to sign up for the program.

There is a $25 registration fee. The program fee is $55 a week, like with the previous vendor.

The program fee for three days a week is $40.

Previous after-school provider, White Oak Academy, notified the school system on May 8 that they would no longer be able to provide the service that operates at each elementary school from 2:30 to 6 p.m. every school day.

"We are very pleased with our choice for the program. Georgia Mountain YMCA is serving 17 Hall County elementary schools, as well as, serving students from other counties and come highly recommended from the Hall County District office," said Rick Brown, chief operations officer for Dawson County schools.
