A benefit is planned for a local family that lost everything in a fire last month.

"We're just going to try to help them out as much as we can," said longtime family friend Jeanne Long.

The barbecue fundraiser for the family of Euell Mooney begins at 11 a.m. Saturday and will be held at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame's Gordon Pirkle Room.

Mooney lost his home in the Dec. 6 blaze on Davis Road that claimed the life of his 11-year-old special needs grandson, William Lee.

Long said there has been an outpouring from the community to help the family.

"We've had a lot of people make donations and a lot of businesses have also offered to help," she said.

In addition to the barbecue dinner, Saturday's benefit will include a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and a silent auction.

There will also be live bluegrass, country and gospel music performances.
