A kick off for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 28 at Dawsonville city hall.
The kick off marks the start of the organization’s fundraising season.
American Cancer Society Community Manager Suzanne Hendricks said members of the community “will be able to get more information about how they can make a difference in the fight against cancer.”
Hendricks added that the event is open to all those interested.
Linda Williams, president of the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce, will share her story at the gathering.
Hendricks said the financial goal for this year’s event — which is scheduled for May 21-22 at the Dawson County High School track — is $55,000.
Teams will take turns walking or running around the track at the high school.
Hendricks said each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times.
“Because cancer never sleeps, relays are overnight events, lasting from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.,” she said.
Dollars raised go to fund research for fighting cancer, help enact public policy and provide support for those with cancer or families members who are affected.
