Local Vietnam veterans are anxiously awaiting the 46th annual Mountain Moonshine Festival where they plan to raffle off dozens of prizes to raise funds toward a high school scholarship.

Raffle tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the Dawson Community News, at 76 Howard Avenue East, Suite 140, Dawsonville, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 970 also have raffle tickets to sell leading up the festival that will be held Oct. 26-27 in downtown Dawsonville.

Among the raffle prizes are gift cards to local restaurants and businesses, a charcoal grill and smoker, a flat screen television, a full set of automobile tires and two 12-guage Remington 870 shotguns.

"We'd like to thank everyone, all the local businesses that contributed to our fundraiser," said Wayne Watkins, president of the local chapter.

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 970 will also have a booth at the festival on the corner of Hwy. 9 and Bill Elliott Street. Tickets will be drawn throughout the two-day event with winners given 72 hours to claim their prizes.
Proceeds from the raffle will fund a scholarship for a local high school student.

"We appreciate everything the Vietnam Veterans have done, not only for our community, but our country, and we welcome the opportunity to partner with them in support of local youth," said Stephanie Griffin, editor.
