Go back in time this weekend with local greats from another era when the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame hosts a genuine sock hop.
Local musicians who have been a part of the music scene since the 50s-Jim McGuirt, Donnie Seay and Mike Stone-will rekindle magical memories of yester year when they perform oldies rock and roll, standards, Motown and country.
"We are going to bring people back," said McGuirt. "Bring back the memories."
McGuirt formed his band The Satellites in Tampa and gained notoriety with their song "Moody" in 1960.
The Satellites toured with many national oldies acts opening for groups like The Coasters, The Drifters and Little Anthony and the Imperials.
McGuirt and his friend Seay will join Stone for an evening of nostalgia. Stone has opened for Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette and Billy Ray Cyrus and has performed with Dwight Yoakum.
Seay was a member of Joe Bennett & The Sparkletones out of South Carolina. Their No. 17 Billboard hit, "Black Slacks" stayed on the charts for over four months.
The Sparkletones performed on The Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand among others.
"I don't think in this whole are there is anybody that has the experience Donnie and I do," McGuirt said. "It should be a whole lot of fun."
McGuirt says people should wear whatever they want to make it look like they just stepped out of the 50s.
McGuirt and Seay are both retired veterans who met after McGuirt moved to the area a year ago. They met at church and realized they had played music with a lot of the same people over the years even though they had never met face-to-face.
They play on Friday nights at the Senior Center.
The sock hop will be from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 24.
