The new Publix grocery store on Ga. 400 in the Dawson Crossroads shopping center will open its doors to the public for the first time next week.
The store is slated to host a ribbon cutting at 6:45 a.m., followed by the doors opening for business at 7 a.m. Oct. 13.
The Publix is a 45,000 square foot store with the traditional grocery, dairy and frozen food departments.
The store will also have a meat department, deli, seafood counter, Publix Online Easy Ordering for deli and bakery items and a pharmacy with a drive-thru window.
Brenda Reid, Publix media and community relations manager, said that the store plans to have 130 employees.
She said the employees who will require skills to work in the deli, bakery or other services were hired a while ago so that they could complete food safety classes and other training.
The other employees, like cashiers and entry-level workers, are still being hired.
Reid said that the store has goals for the amount of business they want to do, but couldn't go into detail. She did say however that the store will eventually tailor their stock to what they know customers like and buy.
"We give it a full year, a full cycle, to decide what all our store will carry," Reid said. "We want to go through all of the holidays and food days to see what people want- so we're excited to be opening right before holiday season."
Reid said that the customer care department has been receiving a lot of calls asking when the new store will be open, and said she hopes that when the store is open all of Dawsonville will come see it for themselves.
"Publix differentiates itself by providing excellent customer service, quality products and competitive prices," said Reid. "We look forward to serving Dawson County and hope that we will become the supermarket of choice in the area."
Publix is located at 145 Forest Blvd at the Dawson Crossroads shopping center. The store's regular hours will be 7 a.m.-10 p.m. seven days a week.
The grocery store joins the already open Chili's Bar and Grill, Aspen Dental and AT&T stores at Dawson Crossroads. Coming to the shopping center soon are Petsmart, Great Clips, Brooklyn Joe's Pizzeria, Lee Nails, Totally Running, Top Cleaners and Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, among others.
