Nominations are currently being accepted for upcoming segments in the Dawson Community News that will profile local men and women serving in our nation's military.

Told "In Their Own Words," the series will feature stories brought to life by active military personnel from Dawson County serving around the world.

The first installment in the segment will be in next Wednesday's paper, followed by weekly stories leading up to Dawson County's seventh annual Veterans Day ceremony and parade on Nov. 11 in downtown Dawsonville.

"The men and women in the military put everything on the line for us. They deserve to be recognized and the least we can do is let them tell their stories in the weeks leading up to Veterans Day," said Stephanie Griffin, editor of the Dawson Community News.

Pam Hamalainen, Veterans Affairs of Dawson County president, encourages the community to "listen with your heart" as you read the stories.

"It is there where you will find a better understanding of their honor to our country. Let these words inspire you to do more for them," she said.

"It is our duty to honor our men and women of the military. We cannot let them serve our country, put their lives on the line and their families second without letting them know how much we truly appreciate all they give for us so we can enjoy our freedoms."
