New principal hired for Riverview Elementary School

Adam Maroney has been hired as the new principal of Riverview Elementary School, Dawson County Schools announced in a press release today.

According to the release, Maroney has 19 years of experience in education and is the current principal of Vickery Mill Elementary School in Roswell. 

"I am honored to join Dawson County Schools to serve the students and parents at Riverview Elementary," Maroney said. "Riverview has a legacy of academic success and more importantly has established a community of learners and partners that is rival to none. I am excited to work alongside such a dedicated team of professionals who truly love and care about the students they serve. I am excited to meet the faculty, staff, students and parents." 

Maroney has served eight years as an elementary school principal. 

Prior to that, he served as an assistant principal, instructional support teacher and speech language pathologist at all levels from pre-kindergarten to high school.

He has an undergraduate degree in special education and speech pathology from the University of Maine at Farmington, a master's degree in communication science disorders from the University of Cincinnati and a specilist degree in educational leadership from the University of West Georgia. 

He has a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association. 

He is married to Joni Maroney, who is also a speech language pathologist, and they have two daughters. 

Current Principal Julia Mashburn is retiring at the end of the school year. She has served as principal at Riverview Elementary since it opened in 2010, and served as principal of Black's Mill Elementary prior to that.
