Musicale group to perform at Bowen

The Bowen Center for the Arts will welcome the Georgia Musicale Group in their concert "Piano and Opera Arias" next week.

The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16.

Three performers will provide piano and opera arias with fun conversation. Attendees will also enjoy a casual question and answer session and reception with refreshments.

The concert will feature three regional artists performing Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Sant-Saens, Gershwin and more. Performing is Abbie Hattauer, Dr. Utako Tanigawa and Julie Woodall.

Abbie Hattauer of Marietta is a pianist and vocalist. Originally from New York, she has been an avocational pianist for more than 40 years. She performed as a member of the Island Lyric Opera Company in more than a dozen major operas and operettas for over 20 years.

Dr. Utako Tanigawa, a concert pianist, recently performed with Dr. Joe Chapman at the University of North Georgia. She came from the executive business sector but her love of music resurfaced after a recent illness.

Tanigawa has also performed in amateur competitions in the Van Cliburn Competition, and in Washington in the District of Columbia, Poland and Russia. She is the president and founder of the Musicale Group.

Julie Woodall of Dahlonega has played piano for 50 years. She taught elementary level music for 31 years and is presently the organist and choir director at St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Dahlonega. She enjoys accompanying solos and groups.

The concert is $10 with funds benefiting the Georgia Musicale Group and their outreach in musical presentations and benefits. Additional information can be found on the Georgia Musicale Group at www.mygmg.org or on Facebook.

The Bowen is located just north of the historic square in Dawsonville, between Lanier Tech and Dawson Junior High School. Extra parking is located at adjoining school lot.
