During the March meeting of the Dawson County Historical and Genealogical Society, Ray Rensi will present a program called "Murder and Moonshine in the Mountains."

The meeting will be March 19 at the Dawson County Library on Allen Street.

Refreshments and fellowship will begin at 5 p.m. and the program will begin at 6 p.m. All are invited.

Rensi was a professor of history at North Georgia College & State University (now the University of North Georgia) for 34 years; he retired in 2000 as head of the history department.

He has spoken on many occasions about the impact of the moonshine industry on the economic and cultural development of the north Georgia area.

He has done an oral history in which he interviewed many elderly people about their remembrances and was co-author of the book "Gold Fever."

Often referred to as a true "Renaissance Man" because of his vast knowledge, experiences, interests and achievements, Rensi makes an interesting, educational and entertaining speaker.

The society encourages local residents to come and enjoy the program.
