Mr. and Miss Dawson County to be crowned this weekend

The annual Miss Dawson County beauty pageants will be held this upcoming weekend with all proceeds from the event going to the Dawson County Band Boosters.

The event will take place April 21-22 at the Dawson County High School Performing Arts Center.

The pageants this year will include a Miss Dawson County and Mr. Dawson County and the winners will earn scholarship money.

Miss Dawson County will be awarded a $500 scholarship and Mr. Dawson County will win a $250 scholarship.

All of the former winners of the Miss and Mr. Dawson counties have been invited to attend.

The pageant includes a number of separate age groupings: Tiny Miss (3 years old through pre-K) at 6 p.m.; Wee Miss (kindergarten through second grade) at 7 p.m.; Little Miss (third through fifth grade) at 8 p.m.; Junior Miss (sixth and seventh grades) 3 p.m. on April 22; Teen Miss (eighth and ninth grades) 4 p.m. on April 22; Mr. Dawson County (ninth through 12th grades) 5 p.m. on April 22; and Miss Dawson County (10th through 12 grades) 6:30 p.m. on April 22.

There is also a Miss Sparkle Special Needs Pageant that will be held during the intermission of the Miss Dawson pageant.

Contestants will wear casual and dress outfits and each winner will receive a crown, a trophy and a sash. There will be four runners-up in each age group and each will receive a trophy.

There will also be a people's choice winner. Votes are cast by audience members who pay $1 a vote.

Admission to the event is $5 per person.
