A Florida woman was found safe Wednesday after she was reported missing Monday near Amicalola Falls State Park in northwestern Dawson County.

"She was simply lost," said Capt. Tony Wooten with the Dawson County Sheriff's Office. "She missed the trail where she was camping and had been lost since."

Wooten said a motorist spotted Lynn Bresee, shortly before 2 p.m. on John Town Road, off Ga. 52 near the Gilmer County line.

"He'd seen her photo and stopped and asked what her name was," Wooten said. "Then he called us and let us know she was OK."

Billy Thurmond, director of Dawson County Emergency Services, said Bresee, 54, was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where she is being treated for dehydration.

Bresee reportedly left her campsite on foot Monday afternoon en route to the bathhouse at the state park.

When she had not returned by 11 that night, a male camping companion notified authorities.

Thurmond said search and rescue crews combed the area overnight and into Tuesday with no sign of Bresee.

Crews resumed the search Wednesday, extending the search to include rappeling down the falls to ensure Bresee had not fallen.
