The 2011 Miss KARE for Kids will be crowned Saturday at Riverview Middle School.

Now in its third year, the pageant is one of several fundraisers for KARE for Kids, a local non-profit organization that provides Christmas presents to Dawson County children in need.

As queen, Miss KARE for Kids will represent the organization in various capacities during the next year.

More than 50 contestants competed in last year's pageants in seven age categories.

Judging is based on beauty, poise and personality.

Each division queen will receive a crown, sash and bouquet of flowers. Trophies are also awarded to each runner-up of each age division.

There will also be an optional practice Friday at the middle school auditorium.

Robin Smith, a KARE for Kids spokeswoman, called the pageant "a great success."

Registration is available at the door the day of the event.

Admission to the pageant is $3 per person. Admission is free for children 3 and younger.
