The Dawson County 4-H Archery Team competed at the Georgia 4-H state match in April with almost 600 shooters from all over the state. Several Dawson County shooters shot their best scores at the match, with the Senior Compound Team placing fourth in the state out of approximately 40 teams. The team is coached by Larry Painter, Bobby Miller and Delena Spangler. One of the Dawson County 4-H Archers, Shelton Pugh, recently earned the Gold Medal at The State Games of America in Lynchburg, VA. The State Games of America is an Olympic-style event featuring competitions in a variety of outdoor sports held every other year. There are currently 30 states conducting or organizing statewide sports festivals known as State Games. Competitors who win Gold, Silver or Bronze at their state level will then advance to the national competition. This year’s competition was held July 31–Aug. 4, 2019 in Lynchburg, VA.
