The Dawson County Public Library will be offering a secure way to destroy confidential records today from 10 a.m. to noon.

An onsite truck will be at the library to shred personal documents free of charge. The event will be held at Dawson and Lumpkin County libraries and is open to the public.

Participants are invited to bring up to five boxes of documents to shred and participants can watch their materials being shredded on the truck's video display monitor.

The library is recommending items such as bank information, canceled or blank checks, credit card offers or information, personal bills, legal papers, medical records, financial statements or old income tax records. There is no need to remove paper clips, folders or notebooks from the documents.

After the secure shredding is complete, all materials will be recycled.

For more information, call the Dawson County Library at (706) 344-3690.
