KARE for Kids is now accepting holiday assistance applications for the 2011 Christmas season.

Applications will be accepted through Dec. 5 at Bethel United Methodist Church, located at 100 Lumpkin Campground Road South, Dawsonville.

In order to qualify for assistance, applicants and their children must live in Dawson County. If the children are school age, they must attend Dawson County schools. Families also cannot receive assistance through any other agency at Christmas.

A Georgia driver's license, proof of residency such as a utility bill, school report cards if the children are in school and pay stubs for the last two months must be presented when applying for assistance.

Parents will also need to bring a list of the child's exact clothes and shoe size, specific clothing needs, three specific items the child would like for Christmas and the child's homeroom teacher, if enrolled in school.

Applications will be accepted the following times and dates: 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 and 19; 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14, 21, 28 and Dec. 5; and 9 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 3.

The group will also accept applications from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday during Family Connection's Community Resource Fair at Riverview Elementary School.

Last year, KARE for Kids provided Christmas presents to more than 200 families and nearly 750 local children through initiatives such as its annual fundraiser, the Mountain Moonshine Festival.
