A new roundabout at the intersection of Hwys. 53 and 183 in Dawsonville has been officially bid out by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The project was awarded to the lowest bidder, CMES Inc., for a price tag of more than $3.7 million.
Though there is no official start date yet, the project has an estimated completion date of May 31, 2018.
In a Dec. 14 press release, GDOT stated that the project is one of their latest bid contracts, joining 18 other projected projects across the state that total over $44.5 million.
Most of the projects focus on existing infrastructure, including work on 32 bridges.
According to the release, the project would change the at-grade intersection to the three-legged one-lane roundabout. The roundabout approaches will consist of 12 foot to 20 foot wide lanes with a raised island to split traffic.
GDOT said that information on schedules, lane closures and detours will be made available in advance of construction activities.
