A brunch fundraiser Sunday supports Good Shepherd Clinic's continued efforts to offer free medical care in Dawson County.

Volunteers with the free clinic will be at The Chimneys at Big Canoe from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 14 serving up a unique dish of grits and granola, catered by Buckhead-based Talk of the Town. Admission into the event is $35 per person.

"That may not sound very glamorous, but believe me, it's going to be exceptional. We're going to be serving the food in martini glasses," said organizer Doug Powell.

Operating in the basement of Grace Presbyterian Church, the clinic provides free, non-emergency medical care for adults who live, work or go to school in Dawson County and fall at 200 percent or below the federal guidelines for poverty.

The clinic, which is open Thursday afternoons as a general practice facility, also offers specialty care, ranging from gynecology and surgical consultations to ear, nose and throat exams.

The volunteer staff of doctors, nurses, medical technicians and administrative personnel operates entirely on donations and invites the community to Sunday's fundraiser.

"It's going to be a great time and you'll get to experience some really wonderful food for a good cause," Powell said.

Powell said those attending the event should enter the neighborhood at the main gate.
