Postal customers are being asked to help Stamp out Hunger by donating nonperishable food items that will be given to the local food pantry.
Mail carriers in Dawson County and across the country will be picking up the donated food along their daily mail delivery routes on Saturday.
"All they have to do is put the food in a bag or a box near the mailbox and we'll pick it up," said Post Master Andrea Phillips.
The donations will then be distributed to the food pantry at RIC Rack Thrift Store.
Now in its 22nd year, the Stamp Out Hunger campaign is the largest one-day food drive in the nation.
Letter carriers collected more than 74.4 million pounds of food last year, bringing the 21-year total to 1.3 billion pounds.
