The Dawson County Jaycees is looking for a few more teams for the inaugural Chili Bowl and Flag Football Tournament next month.
To be held at Veterans Memorial Park beginning at 11 a.m. March 6, the tournament will feature eight local teams playing at least two games each. The top six teams will go on to play three games.
The event will also feature a chili cook off with local celebrity judges.
Proceeds from the day benefit a scholarship the Jaycees have set up for a Dawson County High School student.
Organizer Tony Tarnacki, who serves on the Jaycees’ board of directors, encourages the community to come out and enjoy the day.
“This is a great opportunity to raise some money for the schools and get out there and have some fun, get some exercise and hopefully not look too bad on the field,” he said.
He said he’s also looking forward to tasting the different types of chili in the cook off.
“We’d like to have a good turn out for the games and for the cook off,” Tarnacki said.
Prizes will be given for the winning team and the best chili.
Registration is $100 per team and will begin at 10:30 a.m. Registration will be limited to the first eight teams.
“We have several teams that have already signed up,” Tarnacki said.
The $100 registration also includes a free ticket for each player to the chili cook off. The chili lunch is $5 for those not participating in the flag football tournament.
