Georgia State Patrol officials are currently investigating the cause of a single-vehicle wreck that sent five to the hospital Thursday afternoon.

Dawson County Emergency Services Chief Danny Thompson said that emergency personnel responded to the wreck at 2:45 p.m. Jan. 31 in the area of 8617 Hwy. 136 W.

Responding units found one vehicle down an embankment.

There were five patients total treated and transported from the scene of the wreck, Thompson said.

Two Dawson engines and med units responded as well as mutual aid from Pickens County and an Air Life helicopter.

"I am very proud of the hard work of my personnel and the Dawson County Sheriff's Department," Thompson said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this motor vehicle accident."

Thompson did not release the names of those injured.
