Dawson County fire officials are investigating a blaze that destroyed a Hwy. 53 home early Tuesday and displaced a family of four.

Tim Satterfield, deputy chief of emergency services, said no one was injured in the fire, which occurred sometime after midnight at 5364 Hwy. 53 East, but the home was a complete loss.

"The house was fully engulfed [in flames] when our firefighters arrived," Satterfield said.

According to tax records, the 2,972-square-foot home is owned by Travis and Jody Pelfrey.

Camilla Watson, a family friend, wrote in an e-mail Tuesday that "they are all OK, but lost everything they own."

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

"We're going back out there ... to investigate," said Satterfield, who also serves as the department's fire marshal.
