The 5th Ranger Training Battalion will conduct its annual water jump at War Hill Park into Lake Lanier next week.

In the case of inclement weather, the May 4 jump will take place May 9.

The water jump is an airborne operation where soldiers from the 5th Ranger Training Battalion parachute from Georgia Army National Guard helicopters into Lake Lanier.

This training enhances the morale of the unit, builds proficiency in airborne operations and develops law enforcement and emergency medical service inter-agency capabilities.

The 5th Ranger Training Battalion and local emergency services will conduct training and rehearsals from 1 to 5 p.m. May 3 at War Hill Park.

Community members and park visitors are asked to remove all vehicles from the War Hill Park boat ramp and boat ramp parking area no later than 9 a.m. May 3.

The boat ramp and parking lot will be closed by the Dawson County Parks and Recreation Department on the afternoon of May 3.

The event may also delay boat traffic on Lake Lanier May 3- 4 and possibly May 9 to ensure the safety of parachutists and boaters.
