The sixth annual Young Life Dawson Dash 5K and Fun Run will be held this Saturday at Rock Creek Park.

Men, women and children of all ages and ability are invited to attend.

According to Shawn Dutcher, the local director for Young Life, the event has drawn more than 115 competitors each of the last four years.

"We're hoping to break the 150 mark this year," Dutcher said. "We've got competitive runners, people who are just looking to stay in shape, people who just love running and some older folks who will just walk."

The fundraiser will benefit the Young Life organization.

According to Dutcher, Young Life is a non-profit, Christian organization dedicated to reaching out to children to improve their lives.

"We want to reach every kid, especially those with no church home or those who don't necessarily have a foundation in their lives," Dutcher said. "Those that come from great families and have great support systems, we want to help develop into leaders."

The group focuses on students in middle and high school, and holds weekly meetings where students can sing and play games.

The group also holds weekend and week-long summer camps for children.

Registration for the Dawson Dash is ongoing and costs $25. Race-day registration is available.
