Dawson County has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“The Finance department is honored to receive this award for the 10th consecutive year. The preparation of the CAFR is a team effort, and my staff does a great job putting it together,” said Dawson County CFO Vickie Neikirk. “This report provides important information to the board of commissioners, administration, all other departments and to the citizens of Dawson County concerning how their tax dollars are being spent and managed.”

The county’s finance department has been given an award of financial reporting achievement for preparing the CAFR, which was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program.

The CAFR demonstrated a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read it.
