Congregation seeks volunteers to serve community

The congregation at Mountain Lake Church-Dawson invites the community to join them in a day of service.

"We see our church as a church for the community," said Pastor Brian Haas, who is leading the charge to serve the community through various service project efforts Saturday morning.

Volunteers are needed at RIC Rack's thrift store, the humane society, Family Promise's day center and a clean-up at the Dawsonville City Park.

"The whole point of it was just to get people thinking about serving the community," Haas said. "We just wanted to create a very easy starting point. It doesn't take a lot of time. It costs people nothing."

Haas said he hopes Serve Day will spur volunteers to serve the community on a regular, ongoing basis.

"If you can give us about four hours on a Saturday, you can do something for the community," he said.

Volunteers are asked to meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame.

A list of projects are detailed at www.mountainlake.tv/serveday, where volunteers can pre-register and pick their avenue of service.
