Santa Claus is expected to make an early stop in Dawsonville for the city's annual Christmas tree lighting Dec. 9.

Festivities including carolers and dancers beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex, followed by the lighting of the 26-foot tree at dark.

There will also be complimentary coffee, cocoa and cider, as well as a free photo with Santa.

Additional photos with Santa will be available for purchase.

"We encourage everyone to come out to kick-off the holiday season and enjoy the festivities, compliments of city hall and our local sponsors," said organizer Sarah Beacham, city accounting clerk.

More than 300 gathered for last year's tree lighting spectacular.

On Dec. 10, the holiday theme continues in Dawsonville when the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame welcomes dozens of vendors to showcase their Christmas-inspired gifts and collectibles. Tables are $10 for vendors. Admission is free for shoppers. Funds benefit the racing hall of fame.
