Officials say lightning may be to blame for a fire Thursday that destroyed a log cabin in western Dawson County.

More than a dozen firefighters and emergency personnel worked the blaze, but could not save the two-story structure on Antioch Church Road.

Tim Satterfield, deputy chief of Dawson County Emergency Services, said the fire did not appear to be suspicious.

He said its cause has not been determined, but lightning may have been a factor.

According to Satterfield, the home was vacant when the fire started about 9:30 a.m. No one was injured fighting the blaze.

“The homeowner was insured,” he said.
