American Legion Post 247 plans to donate proceeds from its weekly Bingo event to raise funds for an elevator at the local senior citizens center.
Doors at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex Speed Shop open at 6:30 p.m. with Bingo play beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, March 19.
Cash prizes of between $50 and $100 will be awarded for the first seven games, while the jackpot round is worth $800 in cash.
When more than one person gets a bingo, the cash prizes are split.
Margie Weaver, director of the Dawson County Senior Center, said the center is in dire need of an elevator.
Without an elevator, she drives seniors who can not walk down the stairs, around the building to the basement so they can participate in activities such as art, bridge and exercises.
“Not having an elevator limits the seniors who can participate,” Weaver said. “We’re so appreciative they are wanting to help us.”
Bingo is open to everyone; however, anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult to be able to win cash prizes.
Bingo card booklets start at $10 per person. Additional cards are available.
