A man armed with a switchblade knife approached a business owner in the War Hill Park Road area Monday afternoon demanding money.
The suspect, described as an Hispanic male in his 30s, allegedly entered Chestatee Deceased Pet Care at around 2:30 p.m., walked up to the owner and demanded he give him his money.
When the victim did not comply, the suspect yielded the knife and asked again. "He was successful in getting away with less than $100," said Dawson County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Tony Wooten.
No one was injured.
The suspect fled the scene on a black bicycle in the direction of War Hill Park Road on Hwy. 53.
Patrol officers from both Dawson and Forsyth counties responded to the armed robbery call, and numerous officers searched the area without being able to locate the subject, Wooten said.
Witness statements describe the subject as a clean-shaven, Hispanic male between 5' 5" and 5' 6" tall, wearing a white v-neck T-shirt and shorts. He also spoke very clear English, Wooten said.
Authorities believe it's very possible the suspect resides in or near the War Hill area. "There may be people in the area that have information about the robbery that would provide us with the information that would lead to this case being solved," Wooten said.
Anyone with information on the robbery should contact the Dawson County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division at (706) 344-3535.
