What: "Are You Smarter Than a 10-year-old?"

When: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday

Where: Dawson County Middle School

Admission: Free

For the sixth consecutive year, adults from across Dawson County will gather Thursday to prove they are indeed smarter than a 10-year-old.

The "Are You Smarter Than a 10-year-old" competition, which benefits the Reading Education Association of Dawson County, is set up much like Jeff Foxworthy's game show, "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader," asking questions taught at the elementary school level.

R.E.A.D. Executive Director Sandy Lipkowitz said the event is a fun, innovative way to help others.

"The wonderful thing about this event is that those who participate are contributing to helping someone better their life and their family's lives through education and improved literacy," she said.

"They are helping Dawson County in attracting new business due to having a literate workforce available."

For the competition, eight, three-member teams will attempt to answer the most questions correctly to win.

Fifth graders from each of the county's elementary schools will be on hand to help out if the questions are too tough for adult minds.

The Dawson County Woman's Club went undefeated for two years until the Dawson County Rotary Club claimed the title last year.

County manager Kevin Tanner will be the guest speaker this year.

The competition runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Dawson County Middle School.

Lipkowitz said the event is free for observers. A live and silent auction will be available throughout the evening.

Live auction items include University of Georgia football tickets, one-day passes for two to the Atlanta Motorsports Park and two one- week vacations at The Shores of Panama in Panama City Beach, Fla.
