The train has left the station. You do not have to worry about the government knowing who has or has not have had the COVID-19 vaccine. They already know.

Ever wonder how I know what percentage of people in any age group have had the vaccine or have had the virus? Take a look at your vaccine card. What data is there about you? That data goes into GRITS (Georgia Registry of Immunization and Transaction Services) within 24 hours of you receiving the vaccine. In fact, all vaccines, regardless of the age of the patient, are in that register. It does not matter what county you got the vaccine in, your county of residence is tracked.

Now President Biden is considering going door-to-door to encourage unvaccinated people to get the vaccine. Now you know how the government will know which door to knock on. Do I think that is a good idea? No, I do not. There are other ways to encourage the stragglers to get the vaccine and I think that should be done. If I may paraphrase a biblical quote: “The anti-vaccinators will always be with us.”  Remember, if a variant of COVID-19 comes our way, the victims will be the unvaccinated. There is so much on the news and everywhere else about the COVID-19 virus and the benefits of immunization that I do not think a knock on the door will cause a light bulb to come on.

Traditionally the new flu vaccine is released in July but does not reach us until August or September. This is because of distribution based on the volume of order size. The drug stores seem to get it first and then everyone else gets theirs. So watch the news and advertising and get the flu vaccine when it is available. We have had a great non-flu season this year. Your guess is as good as mine or anyone else as to why. We do know that immunizations, hand washing, coughing in your elbow, and etc. works in preventing the spread of the flu virus. Now we can see if adding masks works as well for the flu as it does for COVID-19.

Encourage others to get the vaccine. Pretend you are an adult and lead by example.
