Everything old is new again. Great saying and oh so true. A lot of things go out of style or new and better things come to replace what we are used to. Unfortunately, some of us have become used to COVID-19, and as it was going away they missed it. Thanks to them – that is, those who did not get vaccinated or get the virus — the new strain COVID-19 Delta has a home. There is a new term “pandemic of the unvaccinated.” That should be self-explanatory. But just in case, for the most part, only those who are not vaccinated will get the COVID-19 Delta and they will get it from others who are not vaccinated. Those of us who are vaccinated or have antibodies will refrain from saying “I told you so.”
Name this play by the Bard: “to mask or not to mask, that is the question.” This is where OCS or “ordinary common sense” comes into use. When in doubt, wear the mask. When you feel assured, probably safe not to wear the mask as long as you are vaccinated.
Here is another quote from the Bard: “A monkeypox on you.” I do not think we need to worry about this one. This one is a good example of why to get vaccinated when it is the appropriate time. Those of us who have that little scar on our arms from childhood have been vaccinated against smallpox. That immunity also works against monkeypox. Remember the cowpox story? You never know when a previous vaccination will come back to pay dividends.
For those who get their facts from Facebook, yes, it is true to the best that I can tell that the Federal Government does not have a list of those who have been vaccinated, which would imply that if you are not on that list then you have not been vaccinated. Remember when you were all made scientists? Let’s ask questions. So who does have the list? The State has it. Look at your vaccine card. Can the Feds access that State information? Don’t know. Probably up to Gov. Kemp and the courts.
Let’s encourage all to get vaccinated. The old “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” will not work. Let us gently and lovingly encourage others to get vaccinated. Sugar, no vinegar. Get the shot.
