Three Tigers qualify for state wrestling championships

Coming off his best in class win a week earlier, Dawson County freshman Kelton LeBaron was one of three Tigers to qualify for the state wrestling championships in the GHSA Class 3A-A Sectionals on Saturday in Madison.

LeBaron, who was third in the 113 lbs. weigh class, has a 31-12 record.

Another freshman Wyatt Smith (third in 106, 42-2 record) and junior Jeremy Whalen (sixth in 160, 35-8 record) also advanced to the state competition to be held Thursday-Saturday at Infinite Energy Arena in Duluth.

Other area schools that had wrestlers qualify for the state championships in 3A-A are Jefferson (13), Jackson County (10), Lumpkin County (10), Banks County (5), East Hall (4) and West Hall (3).

Individual state titles will be contested in 14 weight divisions in six classifications.

Saturday's championship finals will stream live on NFHSNetwork.com at 3 p.m.
