Palmer finishes career at Gardner-Webb

Dawson County High School graduate Blake Palmer finished his golf career at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Spring, N.C. with a 24th place overall individual finish in the Big South Conference tournament held in Ninety-Six, S.C.


Palmer wrapped up his 4-years with a 3-day score of 236 to come in at plus 20.


He helped his team capture third place in the event.


His senior year with the Bulldogs was eventful.


Highlights from the past year include a 4-way tie for 23rd at the University of Kentucky Bluegrass Invitational held in Lexington. Palmer recorded rounds of 79, 75 and 73 for a 3-day total of 227.


The Bulldogs team came in 12th overall at the tournament.


Palmer also tied for 10th individually at the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational held in Kennesaw. Palmer carded a 219 after three rounds. He helped his team to pull out a fourth place finish.


Palmer started as a freshman for Head Coach Tee Burton’s team.


In his first season with the Bulldogs, Palmer finished in 21st place in the Atlantic Sun Championships. His lowest round of the season came in the Triad Collegiate Championship with a 71.


Palmer finished the season with an 18-hole average of 77.14. He was the top performer in four out of five events for Gardner-Webb that season.


During his sophomore season, Palmer was voted to the preseason second team All-Atlantic Sun team.


He was a top three performer in every tournament for the Bulldogs that season.


He led the team with a scoring average of 73.36. Palmer capped off his sophomore year with a 12th place finish at the A-Sun championship.


During his junior year, Palmer recorded the second best round ever at the A-Sun championship with a 6 under par 65 on the first day of competition. Palmer finished the 3-day event in 17th place with a 222.


Palmer will be one of three seniors graduating this season from the golf team.


The Bulldogs will also lose Ryan Bell of Charlotte, N.C. and Marco Mathe of Madrid, Spain.


Palmer will graduate with a degree in business.
