Overmyer completes basketball career at Newberry

Former Dawson County High School basketball standout Ty Overmyer recently completed his career at Newberry College in South Carolina.

  

Overmyer played his last game in the South Atlantic Conference semi-finals as his team lost to Tusculum College 79-61 on March 4.

  

Newberry finished the season with a 21-8 record and 10-6 in conference play.

  

The 6’5” former Tiger player began his college career at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton. After two years there, the physical education major transferred to play for Coach Jeremy Luther at Newberry.

  

While at ABAC, Overmyer started in 29 of 30 games his sophomore season.

  

He averaged 4.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. The ABAC team was ranked 11th in the nation in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

In his junior year at Newberry, Overmyer played in all 28 games off the bench.

  

Overmyer shot 58.3 percent from the floor with a game high 14 points against Brevard College.

  

For the season he averaged 2.9 points and 2.3 rebounds.

  

Overmyer played in 28 of 29 games his final year. He shot 37 percent from the floor. He accumulated 234 points for an average of 8.7 per game.

  

Overmyer is the son of Sandy and Todd Overmyer of Dawsonville.

  

He will graduate with a degree in physical education.
