The Riverview Middle School football season came to an end last week.

Head coach Benjy Edwards' team lost a close 20-14 decision in overtime Thursday to Jasper Middle.

Riverview ended the season with a 1-5 record.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Eagles finally got on the scoreboard with one minute remaining before halftime.

Timothy Moody hit Connor Bearden with a perfect pass. Bearden sprinted 50-yards past a stunned Jasper secondary for the touchdown.

Moody added the extra point and Riverview took a 7-0 lead.

Jasper responded with a drive of its own. The team took the ball all the way down to the Eagle 11-yard line.

Riverview's defense held. The Eagles sacked the Jasper quarterback to end the half.

On Riverview's second play of the third quarter, Moody found an opening and scampered 64-yards for a second Eagle touchdown.

Moody's extra point was good, giving Riverview a dominating 14-0 advantage.

The visiting Dragons did not quit.

Jasper's offense went into hurry up mode and scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with 3:20 left in the quarter. The 2-point conversion was no good and Riverview held on to a 14-6 lead.

With 5:28 left in the fourth quarter, Jasper scored the tying touchdown on a 62-yard run. The 2-point conversion pass was good.

Neither team could score in the remaining time, sending the game into overtime.

Riverview took the ball first from the 15-yard line. The Eagles could not gain a first down.

Jasper then took possession and scored from 3-yards out, on a quarterback sneak, to come away with the victory.

"The kids played a good, hard fought ball game. We made some mistakes at crucial points in the game that hurt. I am proud of the kids for not giving up. In overtime we just ran out of gas. We had several kids playing both ways the entire game," Edwards said.
