The Riverview Middle School eighth grade boy’s basketball team seems to be finding its form at the right time.

The Eagles traveled to Lakeside Middle School in Forsyth County and came out on the winning end of a 33-26 score on Jan. 21.

The victory was the second win in a row for Head Coach Mark Thomason’s team. Riverview currently has a 3-7 overall record.

Riverview jumped out to a 19-5 lead at halftime.

Despite having a poor third quarter, the Eagles were able to hang on for the seven-point win.

“We never trailed in the ball game and the key to winning was good defense and rebounding,” said Thomason.

Eagle Steven Stanfill had a big game for the Eagles. Stanfill finished the game with a double-double. He contributed 10 points along with 10 rebounds for his team.

Scott Zadernak also scored in double digits with 10 points, followed by Isaac Rice with nine points.

The Riverview seventh grade boys were not as fortunate. The Eagles dropped a 49-22 decision to Lakeside. The seventh grade team is currently 2-8 on the season.

Lakeside’s pressure defense was too much for the Eagles to handle.

Riverview failed to score a point in the second quarter and trailed 35-9 at half.

Brandon Abbott led all seventh grade Eagle scorers with seven points.
