Dawson County Middle School announced that it will be fielding a track and field team this spring, extending the presence of a program that has experienced consistent success at the high school level.

(Story continues below)

The middle school program will consist of sixth, seventh and eighth-grade athletes and exist under the same program as the varsity team — with the middle schoolers coached by a rotating group of staff led by Samantha Sheriff.

Eighth-graders will be a part of the middle school team until the end of their season — at which point they will have an option to join the junior varsity team for the remainder of the high school season.

Parents who are interested in signing their child up for the team are encouraged to attend a brief informational meeting held at the high school track at Tiger Stadium following the team’s first practice on Monday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m.

An informational document containing various rules, transportation situations and medical requirements can be found at this link.
