Dawson County High School hosted the Region 7-AAA tennis tournament last week and the Lady Tigers took third in the region.

On April 11, the team faced No. 1 North Hall but could not pick up the win although the team still qualified for the state tournament, according to Coach Stefanie Gibbs.

The Lady Tigers defeated Lumpkin County 3-2 on April 13 to take the third place spot in the region.

"I am beyond proud of the girls this season," Gibbs said. "They qualified for the state tournament again with a third place finish in region by beating our rivals, Lumpkin County.

"They made a goal this year to play one point at a time and to not quit when they are down. They met that goal and learned the power of positive thinking."

The team opened play in the state playoffs against Pace Academy on April 18, but results were not available as of press time.
