The Dawson County High School wrestling team celebrated Senior Night last week with wins over Mt. Pisgah Christian School and Riverside Military Academy.

Head Coach Arron Haynes honored his six seniors and their parents with a ceremony between matches Jan. 10.

This year's seniors are: Preston Adams, Travis Dawson, James Evans, Josh Gee, Jonathan Mulberry and JT Stokes.

Dawson crushed Mt. Pisgah by a 66-15 score.

Picking up wins by way of pin were: James Evans (126 pounds), Cory Jenkins (132 pounds), Levi Pressley (145 pounds), Zach Guy (152 pounds), Preston Adams (160 pounds), Rick Brown (170 pounds), Joseph Toal (195 pounds), Josh Gee (220 pounds) and Colton Chester (285 pounds).

Justin Evans (106 pounds) and Quade Buytendorp (113 pounds) won by forfeit.

The individual scores against Riverside were not available as of press time.

The Tigers participated in the Area Duals on Jan. 6-7.

Dawson County came away with a fifth place finish in Region 8-AA.

The Tigers posted a 3-2 record over the two-day event.

Jefferson won the Area Duals by a large margin over Elbert County, who placed second.

Taking third place was Banks County, followed by Jackson County in fourth place.

Jefferson also captured its 11th straight State Dual Championship last weekend.

The Tigers picked up wins over North Oconee, 48-33, Rabun County, 54-26 and East Jackson, 60-21. Dawson lost to Banks County, 51-21 and Jackson County, 46-33.

In the North Oconee match, three Tigers pinned their opponents. Travis Dawson (138 pounds) defeated Cameron Allen, Levi Pressley (152 pounds) pinned Jesse Roberts, and Rick Brown (170 pounds) defeated Zantravious Shields.

Justin Evans (106 pounds), Quade Buytendorp (113 pounds), Cory Jenkins (132 pounds), Evan Kells (182 pounds) and Josh Gee (220 pounds) picked up points after their opponents forfeited.

Haynes' team dominated Rabun County for the team's second win of the tournament.

Justin Evans (106 pounds), Quade Buytendorp (113 pounds), Coty Greer (126 pounds), Travis Dawson (138 pounds), Evans Kells (182 pounds), Joseph Toal (195 pounds), Colton Chester (220 pounds) and Connor McGrew (285 pounds) all won their matches with a pin.
Cory Jenkins (132 pounds) won by way of forfeit.

In the 60-21 victory over East Jackson the Tigers won by pinning foes in five matches.

Justin Evans (106 pounds) over Austin Jones, Coty Greer (126 pounds) pinned Victor Equiarte, Zach Guy (145 pounds) over Edward Stone, Levi Pressley defeated Noah Staples and Colton Chester defeated Dayton Watkins.

Jonathan Mulberry (120 pounds), Cory Jenkins (132 pounds), Billy Smith (170 pounds), Ryan Jones (182 pounds) and Joseph Toal (195 pounds) all won by forfeit.

Several Tigers wrestlers picked up points in the loss to Banks County: Quade Buytendorp (113 pounds) forfeit, Travis Dawson (138 pounds) pinned Tyler Beezley, Preston Adams (160 pounds) with a 11-5 decision over Tristen Guthrie, and Evan Kells (182 pounds) with a pin over Matthew Dibeck.

In a close match against Jackson County the Tigers struggled in the lower weight classes.

Travis Dawson (138 pounds) picked up much needed points with a 3-2 thrilling win over Anthony Ledford.

Other Tigers winning their matches were:

Zach Guy (145 pounds) pinning Jacob Hogan, Rick Brown (170 pounds) pinned Evan Slayton, Evan Kells (182 pounds) with a pin over Wyatt Robertson, Josh Gee (220 pounds) won by forfeit, and Colton Chester (285 pounds) pinned Jake Algard.

Dawson County is currently 19-7 overall in dual matches this season.

The Tigers will wrestle beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Northwest Georgia Duals at Chattooga High School.
