The Dawson County High School varsity Tigers' men's soccer team went 1-1-1 at the Tournament of Champions tournament held in Jekyll Island last weekend.

Coach Jed Lacey's team defeated The Walker School, 2-1, on March 12, lost to Wheeler, 2-1, on March 13, and tied Creekview, 1-1, on March 14.

Against Walker (4-3-1) Sal Mendoza and Dennis Pyetsukh scored goals in the win.

Brandon Lund scored the lone goal against Wheeler (4-0-0) and David Velasquez snuck a shot by the goalie against Creekview (1-5-1).

The No. 1 ranked Tigers are now 5-1-2 overall this season.

"It was a good weekend. The competition was great, that was the reason why we went to this tournament. These are the types of teams we will see at state," Lacey said.

"We had a chance to win all three games, but we couldn't find a way to finish. We are going to have to fix this. After this tournament we always make the final adjustments going into the state tournament."

Lacey praised the play of Lund.

"Brandon Lund had a good tournament and almost pulled off a miracle against Creekview, stealing the ball from a Creekview defender and made some amazing moves to get his shot off with only five seconds remaining. He hit the pole, which would have won the game for us."

Up next for Dawson County will be a trip to Fannin County for a 7:30 p.m. start on Friday.
