The Dawson County High School junior varsity football team suffered a 22-14 defeat to White County last week in Cleveland.

The Tigers' first touchdown came late in the first quarter on a 12-yard run by Phillip Pinion.

The team scored again in the third quarter on an 8-yard run by Evan Povolny.

"The offensive line continued to show improvement in this game. The line provided running lanes as well as time to throw the ball," said Head Coach Chess Hamby.

Hamby said injuries have taken a toll on the high school's program.

"We have had so many injuries at the varsity and JV level that have affected us on Thursday's [game]," said Hamby. "It's hard to gauge what kind of improvement the team has made, but we have seen tons of improvement in individuals. Guys that are starting to learn their position and get a feel for what we are trying to accomplish."

Up next for Dawson County will be a trip to Ellijay to face Gilmer County on Thursday. Kickoff will be at 5:30 p.m.
