Weather hinders golf teams

A threat of severe thunderstorms on Monday delayed the state golf tournament for the Dawson County boys and girls teams.

Head Coach Van Samples said that tournament directors informed him early Monday morning that the girls tournament was suspended until next Monday and the boys played Tuesday afternoon.

Results from the boys’ tournament were not available as of press time.

The girls’ team surprised everyone by reaching the state tournament this season.  It was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the team.

The Lady Tigers finished second in Region 8-AA behind the play of Tayler Hasbrouck. Other members of this year’s team are Erin Pruitt, Jessi Phillips, Racheal Dotson and Tatum Turner.

The Lady Tigers will play at Alpharetta Golf Club.

“The Alpharetta course is really nice. It has out-of-bounds on every hole and has very tight fairways. Our girls have been getting progressively better each week and I think they will do well,” Samples said.

The boys’ team will play at Crabapple Golf Club in Woodstock. The Tigers played a practice round on Saturday on the beautiful course.

“The course is very nice without many visible hazards. There is only one water hole, but the bunkers are really deep.”

Samples said that in order for the boys to be successful they must all play up to their potential.

Members of this year’s team, which finished second in Region 8-AA, are Wesley Bearden, Cody Palmer, Justin Denard, Zach Williams and Caleb Samples.
