Varsity team scrimmages Lakeview

The Dawson County High School varsity boys' basketball team traveled to Gainesville Nov. 13 for a preseason scrimmage game with Lakeview Academy.

The scrimmage provided a chance for Head Coach Thad Burgess to get a look at his team before opening the regular season this week.

Both teams agreed beforehand to wipe the score clean after each quarter, so no score was recorded for the contest.

"It was a learning experience for us," Burgess said. "It was the first chance for four of our players to get their first start ever in a varsity game."

Guard Levi Whitmire is the only Tiger with any varsity starting experience.

"It will take some time for them to adjust to our match-up zone and feel comfortable with what we do," Burgess said.

Dawson County opened the season Tuesday night with a game at Pickens County. Results were not available as of press time.

On Friday, the team will travel to Rabun County for an 8:30 p.m. start with the Wildcats.

"We will have to get some major practice time in this week to get ready for these two games," Burgess said.
