The Dawson County High School boys and girls track teams competed at the State Class AAA Sectionals meet at SE Bulloch High School on Saturday.

In order to qualify for Sectionals the athletes had to finish in the top four in their event during the Region 7-AAA meet last week at Dawson County High School.

Hayden Wilson turned in the best overall performance for the Lady Tigers in the discus event.

Wilson finished in third place with a throw of 106'2" and qualified for the state track meet in Albany on May 9-11.

Also competing at the state meet will be Katelynn Simpson.

Simpson set a new school record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.05.

In the 200-meter event, Carly Gilreath ran a time of 28.34 good for 15th place.

The 4x400 relay team of Caroline Lee, Camryn Geiger, Katelynn Simpson, and Gilreath finished in 11th place with a time of 4:33.95.

Savannah Haberkam took 10th place in both the shot put and discus. Haberkam threw 31'11.5" in the shot and 87'10" in the disc.

"I am very proud of the effort by our athletes last weekend. Not only the qualifiers, but everyone. The girls 4x400 team had an especially gutsy run to narrowly miss making alternates for the state meet. Camryn Geiger and Carly Gilreath had exceptional effort on their legs of the relay race," said head coach Arron Haynes.

On the boy's side, Cory Jenkins qualified for the state track meet Jefferson in the pole vault.

Jenkins vaulted 11'0" to take seventh place.
